Renaissance Gardens: Evaluating short-term rehab servicesShort-Term Rehabilitation is temporary care that helps your loved one recover from an illness, injury, or surgery with the highest level of function possible and return to prior abilities. Your loved one must first be medically stable and have a defined diagnosis. Note: Medicare typically covers the cost of short-term rehabilitation and skilled stays.

The three major types of Short-Term Rehabilitation are: physical, speech-language, and occupational. These may be provided on an in-patient basis, in which your loved one stays overnight for multiple days, or on an outpatient basis, in which your loved one makes repeated visits for care, each time leaving the same day. An important consideration may be whether the rehabilitation provider offers other services such as Assisted Living or Long-Term Nursing Care, so your loved one can take advantage of these as needed.

Ranking Short-Term Rehabilitation capabilities

To assist you in evaluating Short-Term Rehabilitation capabilities, we have created a simple "check-off" list for you to print and fill out. Your responses will help you in discussions and decision-making with your loved one, family, friends, and care providers. We recommend that, if you call or visit us at Renaissance Gardens, you refer to the list when you speak with a Renaissance Gardens health care counselor.
