Q: What is Erickson HealthSM?
A:Erickson Health is the nation's largest integrated wellness and health network for people 62-plus.

Q. What is the meaning of “full-time physicians on site?”
A:During normal business hours—8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday—there are full-time physicians working at each community’s on-site Medical Center. That means residents of Renaissance Gardens can readily see a doctor without leaving campus. Appointments can often be made within 24 hours of calling.

It also means that if a medical problem arises at Renaissance Gardens during the day, there are not only Renaissance Gardens nurse practitioners on duty, but also Medical Center physicians close at hand. (For information about Medical Center doctors visiting Renaissance Gardens, and how doctors provide nighttime and weekend care, see Primary Care and Specialty Care at Renaissance Gardens.)

Q: Who arranges visits to the Medical Center—family or staff?
A: The Renaissance Gardens staff will arrange your loved one’s appointments with Medical Center physicians and consulting specialists. Appointments with non-Medical Center physicians must be arranged by your loved one or you.

Q: How do people who live at Renaissance Gardens get to the Medical Center for an appointment?
A: We encourage your loved one to be independent, and if possible to walk to the Medical Center or use the campus shuttle. If this is not possible, we will make sure your loved one gets to his or her Medical Center appointment on time.

Q: Do family members need to come to the Medical Center appointments?
A: You may certainly join your loved one, but it’s not necessary. We find that many family members have limited time to spend here, so we encourage them to use their visits for conversations, going on walks, participating in events, dining, and other activities.

Q: How often do Medical Center doctors visit Renaissance Gardens?
A: Our physicians visit Renaissance Gardens and see residents according to their specific needs. An Assisted Living* resident might be in good health and need only an annual check-up, whereas a Long-Term Nursing Care resident might need a visit every week. The frequency of visits is defined by the health care staff.

Q: What happens if there’s a medical problem outside of “normal business hours”?
A: Each week, one of the Medical Center physicians is assigned as the “on-call” doctor. That means he or she responds promptly to requests for medical care outside normal business hours, either by coming to Renaissance Gardens or by consulting by phone with the nurses on duty at Renaissance Gardens.

Q: Do family members need to come to therapy appointments?
A: You are welcome to come and learn about your loved one’s therapy, and to provide emotional support, but you don’t need to come.

Q: What happens in a medical emergency?
A: In the event of an emergency, your loved one will be treated by the community’s emergency medical team, and either returned to the care of the Renaissance Gardens staff or, as needed, taken to the hospital.

Note that if your loved one is hospitalized, we will send care professionals to the hospital to visit your loved one and ensure that all aspects of his or her care are in order. That care professional will also make sure that your loved one has a smooth transition back to Renaissance Gardens when the time comes.
